Skiing

skiierSkiing has come a long way since I was a little girl. I started skiing when I was 12 years old and my first trip to the mountain was with my dad. I was pretty intimidated the first time I hit the slopes. Since then I have pretty much grown up on the mountain. When I was in middle school and high school I was on the ski team and to this day I try to make it up to the mountain at least a few times a year.

The sport has really taken a competitive turn since I was racing. I remember when I was in middle school and high school it was pretty unusual to be part of the ski team and now it is unusual if you are not involved with skiing or snowboarding. I have done both sports in my day and in my opinion skiing is a lot safer and more controlled sport compared to snowboarding. It could have to do with the fact that I broke my wrist snowboarding and the only accident I have aver had with skiing I broke my ski! I would brake a ski over a bone any day!

There are a lot of name brands that help create and maintain the ski culture – these include Armada, K2, Salomon, Rossignol, Volkl skies and more. The ski community is known as being laid back but when it is time to ride it is time to get serious. Skiers love great powder and smooth slopes. A perfect day for a skier is waking up ad hitting the mountain after a night of steady snow fall.

The really good skiers can do tricks like you would not believe! It is not rare to find the best of the best flying off cliffs and going off huge jumps. Skiing takes a special type of athlete – if you can ride and have a sense for great adventure- you can fit right in!
