Skateboarding
I don’t know about you but I never really got into skateboarding. It could be because I am a female and when I was younger it was more of a male dominated sport. I have noticed that kids now a day are younger and younger when it comes to skateboarding.
My husband started skateboarding when he was 12 years old and has been hooked ever since. Compared to how old kids are starting now – he learned at a very late age. He loves to skateboard and even though he is older now he still tries to get out and do it at least a few times a week.
There are many mixed opinions of when kids should start skateboarding. Some people think the younger the better (2-3 years old) because you learn the skills at a younger age and hold on to them the best at this age. Other people think that waiting until a child is (5-6-7 years) of age makes much more sense and it a lot safer.
No matter how old you are when you start the principles are the same for everyone. A good skateboarder must maintain good balance and should always be wearing a helmet and kneepads to prevent bad injuries. (Sorry I am a safety fanatic!) Whatever age you decide to start your kids at remember to get them proper safety gear!
