Soccer – A great family sport

soccerWhat kid does not enjoy a good game of soccer. I myself never got involved with soccer. Currently it is the most popular sport amongst kids. Since 1987 Soccer has gone from a population of 15 million to over 17.9 million in 2002 and it continues to grow!

Soccer is another sport that is relatively inexpensive. As long as you own or have access to a soccer ball you can really play anywhere. You can get some friends together and go to a park or you can even just play in your neighborhood. Another good thing about soccer is it is easy to practice by yourself. It is not the type of sport that needs a lot of people to practice. Just by spending time with the ball you can improve your skills.

I recommend a good set of knee pads and a sturdy pair of soccer shoes to ensure the best safety. As long as you practice safety procedures soccer can also be a pretty safe sport.

Soccer is also great exercise. It can burn up to 400 calories an hour for a 130 pound female and up to 600 an hour for a 190 pound male.

So what are you waiting for – get on the field!

Waterskiing

water-skiingThis blog is all about the world of kid’s action sports. When I was little I loved playing action sports. The very first thing I was introduced to was water skiing. I was around 7 years old the first time I learned how to water-ski. My parents put my life vest on me through me in the water and told me to lean back and hold on tight. I am so thankful my parents got me started at such a young age!

Today I enjoy water skiing and I feel that it is one sport that I do really well in! It is important to get kids started at an early age so that when they are older they can enjoy the sports other kids are in. Another thing I learned to do at a pretty young age was snow ski. My dad took me to the mountain for the first time when I was 10 years old. Because of this exposure I was able to join a ski team in middle school and high school!

Kids action sports have to do with water skiing, wake boarding, snow skiing, snowboarding, skate boarding and any other action sport kids can get involved in. Continue to check back as every week I will be exploring action sports and all the opportunities available to kids.

Baseball and T-ball

I don’t know about you but I love baseball. When I was a little girl I grew playing tee ball and then moving in to softball. I played all through middle school and high school and enjoyed every moment of it. My dad was even my coach in both middle school and high school. He would help me practice and train during every season.

Kids now a days start pretty young when it comes to sports. I started playing tee ball when I was 5 years old. The current recommended ages for t-ball are 4-7 years old but there is also the option of pre tee ball which can start as early as 3 and a half.

Tee ball is for both boys and girls and the next steps that follow are either soft ball or baseball. I never played baseball but I always enjoy watching games in person and on TV. My favorite teams to watch are the Beavers and the Seattle Mariners.

It is Snowboard season!

fusion-passAre you and your kids ready for the snowboard season? It is going to be a cold one this year at the mountain so be sure to dress warm and be prepared. My husband and I have been snowboarding for years. We have not made it up this year yet because we have both been pretty sick the last couple of weeks.

Now that we are feeling better we should be heading up to the mountain in no time! This year my dad bought a new Subaru Legacy. Along with his purchase the Subaru dealer was doing a promotion where when you purchase a new car you get 2 free snowboard passes – they are called Fusion passes and they are good at both Timberline and Ski Bowl. Well my dad gave us the passes for early Christmas presents!

My husband and I are so excited to go but now we just have to wait for good snow. I don’t know about you but I am really picky about the snow conditions when I go to the mountain. If it is too windy and cold I do not like to be out very long and if the conditions on the mountain is icy then I don’t even want to risk it.

I hope you are already for a great winter season! See you on the slopes :)
